The House of the Virgin Mary is located on Bülbül Mountain, 9 km from Selçuk. It is known that St. John brought the Virgin Mary to Ephesus four or six years after Jesus' death. In 1891, Lazarist priests discovered that this was the house where the Virgin Mary spent her last days, based on the dreams of German nun A. Katherina Emmerick.
This discovery was a groundbreaking revelation in the Christian world and shed light on the entire religious community. The cross-shaped, domed structure was later restored. The house, which is also considered sacred by Muslims, has been the site of annual ceremonies since Pope Paul VI's visit in 1967, and these ceremonies attract significant attention.
