Am I a candidate?
Who is a good candidate for breast augmentation?
You are usually a good candidate if your breasts are naturally small, uneven, or emptied by pregnancy or weight loss, your weight is stable and your health allows a general anaesthetic. At JFS, Op. Dr. Onur Evren Yılmaz first reviews two photos of your chest, then confirms it in Istanbul or Izmir on Day 2, after blood tests and chest measurements.
Small breast size and volume loss, why implants are the only way to add size
Breast tissue is made mostly of fat and gland, not muscle, so no amount of training can make it larger — the "pec exercises help" idea only builds the muscle underneath, it does not change the breast itself. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and significant weight loss can all shrink the gland and leave skin looser than before, a change that settles once your weight is stable and does not reverse with diet or exercise. Naturally smaller breast volume, often called micromastia, works the same way: it is how the tissue developed, not something that responds to lifestyle changes. An implant, placed either under the tissue or under the muscle, is the only way to add volume directly.
Signs breast augmentation may suit you
- Naturally small breast size that limits your choice of clothing or swimwear.
- Breasts that lost volume and firmness after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss.
- A noticeable size difference between your left and right breast.
- Your weight has stayed stable for several months and you're not planning another pregnancy soon, since both can change the result.
- You are in good general health, without a condition that would make a general anaesthetic risky.
| Round implant | Teardrop implant | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Even, round, same from any angle | Tapered, fuller at the bottom |
| Look when standing | Fuller upper pole, more cleavage | Gentler slope, closer to natural tissue |
| If the implant rotates | Shape does not change | Can look uneven, usually needs correcting |
| Best for | A fuller, more lifted look | A subtle, natural-looking result |
| Typical candidate | Most first-time patients | Patients prioritising a natural slope over fullness |
What to discuss at your breast augmentation consultation
- Which implant shape, size and profile suits your chest width and existing tissue.
- Whether the implant sits under the breast tissue, under the muscle, or in a dual plane position.
- Where your incision will sit — usually along the breast crease.
- Whether a breast lift should be added if your breasts are lower or looser than average.
- Your full medical history, including any previous breast surgery or family history of breast cancer.
This is general guidance, not a diagnosis. Your surgeon makes the final call once they have seen your photos and health history.
Not every breast augmentation is the same
Types of breast augmentation, round vs teardrop implants and dual plane placement
There are three choices: implant shape (round or teardrop) and size, brand (Mentor or Polytech, both included in the package) and pocket — subglandular, submuscular or dual plane. Your surgeon sets them together on Day 2, after measuring your chest width and pinching the thickness of your own tissue.
- 1Incision at the breast crease
- 2Implant pocket, under muscle or tissue
- 3Implant positioned for symmetry
- 4New breast contour shaped
How breast augmentation is done
| Position | Best for | Incision | Main difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Submuscular (under the muscle) | Patients with thinner natural breast tissue | Breast crease | Firmer coverage over the upper pole, more movement with the chest muscle |
| Dual planeMost common | Most patients with some natural tissue to work with | Breast crease | Combines muscle coverage above with natural movement and shape below |
| Subglandular (over the muscle) | Patients with enough natural tissue to cover the implant edge | Breast crease or areola edge | No muscle distortion with exercise, but more rippling risk in thin patients |
Exact placement and incision depend on your chest shape and how much natural tissue you have — your surgeon marks the plan with you before surgery.
Round vs teardrop breast implants, how your surgeon decides
The choice is not about what you ask for, it is about what your chest measurements and existing tissue show at the consultation. Your surgeon measures the width of your chest, pinches the thickness of your own tissue above and below the breast, and looks at your natural shape and nipple position before suggesting a size and shape range, not a single fixed number.
A round implant is usually suggested when a fuller, more lifted look is the goal, since its shape stays the same even if it moves slightly in the pocket. A teardrop implant is considered when a subtler, more sloped result matters more than fullness — but because its shape depends on sitting the right way up, your surgeon weighs how likely it is to shift against how much that would matter for your result.
Implant placement follows the same logic: thin natural tissue usually points toward a submuscular or dual plane position for better coverage and a softer edge, while enough of your own tissue can support a subglandular implant with a quicker, less restrictive recovery. Your surgeon pinches and measures this directly at your consultation rather than deciding from photos alone.

What can delay your breast augmentation date
Being able to travel within a week does not mean you should if your body is not ready yet, or your plan is not fully settled. Several factors decide your safest date, and your surgeon reviews each one before the operation is confirmed. If your blood tests or the Day 2 consultation suggest waiting would be safer, your date is moved. Your safety comes before the booking.
| Factor | Why it matters | What usually happens |
|---|---|---|
| Smoking or nicotine | Nicotine narrows blood vessels and slows healing along the incision | You are asked to stop for several weeks before and after surgery |
| Pregnancy or breastfeeding | Breast tissue and size keep changing until both are finished | Surgery waits until breastfeeding has ended and weight is stable |
| Implant size and profile not yet decided | Rushing this choice is the most common cause of a second operation | Your surgeon reviews sizers and measurements with you before confirming |
| Blood thinners and some supplements | They can increase bleeding during and after surgery | Your surgeon tells you what to pause and when. Never stop prescribed medication without your own doctor's advice |
| A breast screening or mammogram is due | A baseline scan matters more for patients over 40 or with a family history | Your surgeon may ask for recent results, or arrange one, before surgery |
If you live in the UK, the NHS rarely funds breast augmentation, because it is usually considered a cosmetic operation, so most people compare private clinics at home and abroad. Wherever you choose to go, ask three questions before you book: how quickly you can be seen, what happens if a test result delays your surgery, and who looks after you once you are home.

The operation
How breast augmentation is done, step by step
On Day 3 it follows the four steps drawn below: an incision in the breast crease, a pocket under tissue, muscle or both (dual plane), the implant positioned for symmetry, then the new contour shaped.
Your breast augmentation starts under general anaesthesia, so you are fully asleep for the whole operation. Before you go under, your surgeon marks your chest while you are still standing — tracing the incision line along the breast crease and the outline of the pocket agreed on Day 2, so the plan you discussed carries straight through to the operating table.
The operation itself begins with the incision, usually hidden along the fold under the breast. Your surgeon then creates a pocket either under the breast tissue, under the chest muscle, or in a dual plane combining both, following the position decided at your consultation.
Inside the augmentation
Breast augmentation in four steps
- 1Inframammary incisionA small cut is made along the natural fold under the breast.
- 2Pocket preparedSpace is created under the muscle or tissue, as agreed on Day 2.
- 3Implant placedThe sized implant is inserted and positioned for symmetry.
- 4Layered closureSutures close each layer, and a support bra is fitted.
Breast augmentation implant placement
Once the pocket is ready, your surgeon uses sizers to check how different implant volumes look and feel before placing the final implant — this is the moment where the plan from your consultation is confirmed against how your chest actually responds on the table. The implant is then positioned and checked from several angles, with you lying in different positions during surgery, to make sure both sides look even once swelling settles.
The incision is closed in layers — deeper sutures take the tension off the skin so the scar along the breast crease heals as thin as possible, then finer stitches close the surface. A support bra is fitted before you wake up, holding the implants in place from the moment you open your eyes. Drains are not routinely used for a standard breast augmentation, though your surgeon may place one if a lift is added in the same operation.
Throughout the operation an anaesthetist watches your heart rate, oxygen levels and blood pressure, adjusting your anaesthesia as the surgery moves between stages — pocket preparation, implant sizing and closure each take a different amount of time depending on the placement chosen. A standard breast augmentation typically takes around one to two hours in total; adding a lift or working with denser, thicker tissue can extend this.
Once the dressing and support bra are on, you are moved to a recovery area where nursing staff watch you wake from the anaesthetic before you go to your hospital room for your one night under observation. Most patients feel tight and sore rather than sharply painful at this stage, and pain relief is adjusted through the night as needed.
Recovery, day by day
Breast augmentation recovery time, week by week
Your first week is in Istanbul or Izmir: a night in hospital, five in the hotel and a Day 6 check-up before flying home. Move the slider to see how most patients feel, what they can manage and what to avoid at each point.
Recovery from breast augmentation happens in three broad phases. The first week is about protecting the pocket and letting the implant settle — you keep your arms low, sleep propped up on your back and let the support bra do its job. Weeks two to six are about swelling going down and the implant starting to soften into a more natural position, which is usually when people feel ready for a desk job again. From six weeks onward, the focus shifts from healing to the breasts settling into their final shape.
The support bra is not just comfort — it holds the implants in their new position while the tissue heals around them, which is why it stays on day and night for the first stretch and only moves to part-time wear once your surgeon is confident the position has settled. Most people manage with over-the-counter pain relief after the first few days, stepping down from the stronger medication given in hospital.
Typical timeline for standard breast augmentation. Your surgeon may give you a different plan, especially if a lift is combined.
| Activity | Week 1 | Week 2 | Weeks 3–4 | Week 6 | Months 3–6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walking | Short, slow walks, arms kept low | Walking further each day on your own | Longer walks, arms moving more freely | Normal walking pace, no restriction | No restriction |
| Desk work | Not yet — the focus is on rest and short walks | Most people are back at a desk | Full days comfortable | No restriction | No restriction |
| Driving | Avoid — reaching and reaction times are affected | Confirmed by your surgeon at your check-up | Set by your surgeon after your check-up | Cleared by your surgeon as you heal | No restriction |
| Flying | Day 6–7, after your check-up, wearing your support bra | Confirmed by your surgeon at your check-up | Set by your surgeon after your check-up | Cleared by your surgeon as you heal | No restriction |
| Upper-body exercise | Not yet | Avoid — no lifting, no overhead reaching | Still avoid — no chest or arm weights | Gradual return, starting light | Normal exercise, as cleared by your surgeon |
| Support bra | Worn at all times | Worn at all times | Worn at all times | Coming off, or worn only part-time | As advised by your surgeon |
Typical timeline for a standard breast augmentation, built from the recovery guidance above. Cells marked "Confirmed by your surgeon at your check-up" differ too much between patients to generalise — ask at your consultation.
In her own words

What to expect
Breast augmentation results and scar healing
Many patients see the change early, but the settled shape takes longer: most swelling is gone by about week six, the implants have usually dropped into a softer position by month three, when you share progress photos with your coordinator, and the final shape and the crease scar take six to twelve months.
The scar, sitting in the inframammary fold under the breast, usually starts pink, slightly raised and firm to the touch, softening over the following weeks. Keeping it covered from direct sun during the first year and following your surgeon's scar-care advice helps it settle into the thin, pale line most patients see eventually — though how quickly a scar matures still depends on your own skin.
Results vary from patient to patient. Your surgeon will tell you what is realistic for your body at the consultation.

Questions
Breast augmentation in Turkey, frequently asked questions
How much does breast augmentation cost in Turkey?
At JFS Clinic, an all-inclusive breast augmentation package is £3,600 (€4,150 / $4,800), covering surgery, Mentor or Polytech implants, one night in hospital, five nights in the hotel and all transfers. Combining it with a breast lift changes the price to £4,050; your surgeon confirms the final figure after reviewing your photos.
See all package prices →How soon can I have breast augmentation in Turkey?
Most JFS patients are operated on within about a week of their very first message. You send two photos, get back a personal plan with the dates on offer, then pick when to travel. Your surgeon only confirms the date after your blood tests and the face-to-face consultation in Istanbul or Izmir, moving it if waiting would be the safer choice.
From first message to surgery →Can I get breast augmentation on the NHS?
Rarely. The NHS usually treats breast augmentation as a cosmetic operation and funds it only in exceptional circumstances, such as after breast cancer surgery, decided by your local health board. Most people in the UK end up comparing private clinics, at home and abroad, on surgeon, hospital, aftercare and overall cost.
Is it safe to have breast augmentation in Turkey?
Safety depends on the surgeon and the hospital, not on the country. Op. Dr. Onur Evren Yılmaz is a specialist plastic surgeon operating in a hospital licensed for international patients, and JFS Clinic is licensed for health tourism. Blood tests and a pre-operative check on Day 2 confirm you are fit for a general anaesthetic before your surgery is scheduled. Ask about your surgeon's qualifications, the hospital's licence, the implant brand used and the aftercare plan before you book.
Where is the best country to get a boob job?
No country can honestly claim to be the best for every patient, so compare clinics on standard points: the surgeon's specialist training and experience with breast implants, a hospital licensed for international patients, a written price stating what it includes, and follow-up once you are home. At JFS Clinic you see your surgeon's name before booking and meet them before surgery. Op. Dr. Onur Evren Yılmaz, a plastic surgeon who completed his specialist training in 2012, operates, and your coordinator passes questions and photos from home to him on WhatsApp.
Why is Turkish surgery so cheap?
Price gaps come mainly from lower hospital and staff running costs and an exchange rate that favours pounds, euros and dollars, not from a different operation. A lower price is no proof of a weaker result, and a higher one is no proof of a better result, so check the same standard points: the surgeon's training, the hospital licence, what the quote includes and the aftercare plan. JFS lists its breast augmentation package with surgery, hospital nights, hotel and transfers, and names your surgeon before you book. Flights are not included.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how painful is breast augmentation?
You are asleep for the operation itself. Afterwards, most patients describe the first few days as tight and achy, similar to a hard chest workout, especially when the implant sits under the muscle, easing step by step as the swelling goes down. Pain relief is provided, and how it feels varies from person to person.
What's the difference between round and teardrop breast implants?
A round implant gives a fuller, more lifted look with even volume across the breast, and its shape does not change if it rotates. A teardrop (anatomical) implant is tapered, fuller at the bottom, and aims for a slope closer to natural breast tissue, but can look uneven if it rotates in the pocket. Your surgeon confirms which suits your chest shape and goals at your consultation.
When can I fly home after breast augmentation?
After your surgeon's final check-up, usually on day 6 or 7 of your trip. Wear your support bra, keep your arms low during the flight and avoid lifting your luggage.
What is breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) is an operation that uses an implant to add volume, change shape or restore size lost after pregnancy or weight loss. Breast tissue is made mostly of fat and gland rather than muscle, so exercise cannot enlarge it. At JFS Clinic, Op. Dr. Onur Evren Yılmaz reviews your photos first, then confirms implant size and placement with you in Istanbul or Izmir on Day 2.
How soon will I see my final result?
Initial swelling takes several weeks to settle, and implants usually continue to drop into a softer, more natural position over the following months. Most people see their result taking shape by around three months, with the final look settling by six to twelve months. Results vary from patient to patient. Your surgeon will tell you what is realistic for your body at the consultation.
